The films I analysed included:
-I Am Legend
-Children of Men
-The Book of Eli
-The Day After Tomorrow
All four of these films are a perfect example of good post-apocalyptic opening scene. The conventions included in the opening were...
- Slow, depressing or Sad music. All four of the openings had some sort of track or music that was very sad and made you feel emotional. The music used suits the genre very well and that is why it is a sterotype in post-apocalyptic films.
- Slow editing-All of the opening I watched have very slow editing at the start of the film to build tension, howver there was also was fast editing towards the endings especcially in The day after tomorrow alothough this was a trailer so doesent reflect what I am trying to acomplish very well whicgh is to create of film opening.
- Voice overs- Three of the movie openings I watched included either a news broadcast or a voice over from the main character or something relating to the apocalypse.
- Similar shots and camera angles- post-apocalyptic films often share the same shots in the opening some angles include, high angle and low angles. Similar shots include longs shots and close ups. Finally some of the similar movement include, tracking and panning.
