Researching film openings.

The Dark Night.

Today I'm going to do some extensive research on film openings for my final video. I'm going to get some ideas and inspirastion for my film by watching the Dark Knight opening scene.
Camera Angles and Movement.
The Dark Knight starts off with an establishing shot to establish were the scene is taking place in this instance its a city (053-055). The camera then zooms in on the building where the action is taking place this gives the viewer a good amount of time to see where the action will take place. (056-1.11). The next shot is of the criminal inside the buildoing that has just been zoomed in on, close ups are used to show emotion or in this case the detial of the character and the weapon being used.(1.12-1.14). Next up there is a high angle shot of the two criminals, this high angle shot is used to show where the weapon will be fired and show the two criminals whole appearence.(1.15-1.20). From (1.21-1.29) there is a number of different angles and shots, firstly there is a low angle shot of the character to show his dominance and after the camera zooms into the prop held by the character. From (1.38-1.43) rooftop camras are used, these are camera strapped to building also also on wires to track the actor/s or get a high street view. In this instance a tracking a shot is used to follow the crimals zipwiring from one side of the building to the other and get a view of how high they are. During the bank robbery scenes many camera angles and movement are used for effect on the viewer including over the shoulder shot, pan shot, close ups, medium shots and full shots. All the camera angles and movement of the camera are used to create tension and a good, flowing action scene for the viewer.
Lighting.
Lighting varies in the opening scene between light and dark, light is shown outside the building to show that life is going on as normal however what people dont know is that there is a robbery going on and people are in danger, in contrast to this the dark lighting is there to create tension in the action scene and a sense of mystaery as you dont know who the criminals are. Light and Dark are very important in the opening scenes as they show two totally different things, on one hand you have the vibrant glowing city but in relity horror is inside as the criminals are robbing the bank.
Costume.
Costume is used very effectivly in the clip, for exmaple mask's are wore on the criminals faces to create mysterios characters, the masks are chosen wisely by the proucer as they go by the villan's reputation as the joker. The criminals also have black clothing to show stealth as they are robbing a bank. Whereas the normal civilians who work in  the bank are wearing professional clothing. The hero in this clip (the character who oppses the villans with a shotgun) is wearing a black suit and has very smart clothing, he is also seperated from the rest, maybe this is to show that he is the boss and has dominance over the other characters.
Props.
Many props are used in the opening including guns, masks, a drill, money and bags. The overall setting of the scenes are very well represented. Props are used effectivly in the clip as if there were no props there would be no movie. Props make the film look realistic.

Overall the film used all these elements to create a well strucrtured opening. Mise en Scene is used effectivly and the opening grabs the viewers attention. I would like our groups video to be like this manybe if it was an action or thriller.
