Representation of Social Groups.

The social group we are trying to represent is teenagers. Our character is a teenage girl therefore we are representing the social group of 'teens'. Teenagers are usually stereotyped as lazy individuals with no responsibilities or morals. In contrast to this we are portraying our character as a strong, independent individual with a lot of responsibilities. As the character has survived an apocalypse it portrays teenagers as not being lazy and having to fend for themselves like in our storyline. Overall we are trying to represent the social group as being more independent and strong willed instead of spoilt rotten and ran after by parents. Although not all teenagers are like this people say that society is changing and teenagers are getting worse as time goes on, however in our film opening we are contradicting this and sending a message to the audience watching.

Furthermore we are also representing the female in a different way. A convention of post-apocalyptic movies is the strong survivors being male. Our character is female as we wanted to show that they can also survive and not be the weaker individual. We have portrayed our character as being strong willed and a born survivor. In addition to this females are also seen as shying away from labour and getting dirty. Most girls are stereotyped as being pretty and not getting dirty. However we have portrayed our character as the exact opposite, the girl in our movie doesn't really care about her appearance and uses violence to survive although she also displays some innocence as she doesn't want to kill but she just has to for survival. In conclusion we wanted to contradict the fact that girls wouldn't survive if an apocalypse like this were to happen.
